Two
films from underground filmmaker Carl Andersen that are only for
those who like experimental and perverse cult cinema. If you do,
then you may want to check out this odd collection that features two
of Anderson's films: Mondo Weirdo (1990, Blu-ray) and Vampiros
Sexos (1988, DVD) from Cult Epics.
Shot
in Black and White and presented in HD from the original transfer,
Mondo Weirdo is an unsettling watch and features scenes of sex
and brutality, the film centers around a underworld work of punk
rockers and vampires, there isn't much of a story but rather a
feeling of unease that helps pain his unpretty portrait.
Also
known as I Was A Teenage Zabbadoing, Carl Andersen's first
film, Vampiros Sexos, again mixes punk rock with vampires in
an unsettling and bizarre experimental film that is borderline
pornography and isn't for those simply seeking these types of
thrills. Aimed with a dark and repetitive soundtrack, to say this
film is a relaxing journey would be a false statement.
Mondo
Weirdo is presented in 1080p high definition (black and white)
with a 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio and a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
track. There is a lot of contrast in the image and the weird
soundtrack helps add to the experience. For early scenes of the
film, the print seems to be jumping out of frame, an effect that
happened with film wasn't running through a projector properly, which
adds to the feeling of uneasiness.
Vampiros
Sexos, as mentioned presented on DVD, doesn't look as clean as
the Blu-ray presentation of Mondo, but still looks and sounds
fine for being very low budget and in black and white.

These
two features from the late underground filmmaker make one wonder, was
he making these films for artistic merit or to simply shock his
audience?
