Soulful Sixties

Passport has issued so many hour-average compilations of
older music clips that it is easy to get them mixed up at times and the
material is usually mixed. Soulful
Sixties is one of the best, most consistent compilations to date. Though not all of the songs that follow
would be considered Soul by today’s standards, early mainstream R&B charts
would actually include such hits:
1)
Nowhere To Run – Martha & The
Vandellas
2)
Baby Love – The Supremes
3)
Stop! In The Name Of Love – The
Supremes
4)
Every Little Bit Hurts –
Brenda Holloway
5)
Shotgun – Jr. Walker & The-Stars
6)
Jenny Take A Ride – Mitch Ryder & The
Detroit Wheels
7)
When I’m Gone - Brenda Holloway
8)
Something About You – The
Four Tops
9)
Nothin’ But Heartaches – The
Supremes
10)
Good Lovin’ – The
Young Rascals
11)
Going To A
Go Go – Smokie Robinson & The Miracles
12)
Don’t Mess
With Bill – The Marvelettes
13)
Ain’t That
Peculiar – Marvin Gaye
14)
Message To
Michael – Dionne Warwick
15)
Soul &
Inspiration – The Righteous Brothers
16)
The In
Crowd – Dobie Gray
Maybe it is just luck of the draw, but this is a really
exceptional hits set like few we have seen on DVD to date. There have been those exceptional Music
Video compilations (MTV 20 – Pop and Pure 80’s) but nothing like
this that was so random otherwise.
These are also all the performers in top, even rare form. Those who may have already bought this out
of curiosity were certainly already surprised.
Especially at the low price issued, you will want to get a copy of Soulful
Sixties.
The images are all full frame 1.33 x 1 from their TV
origins and in black and white, with each down a few generations. This is not the most pristine these clips
may be available, but the quality overrides technical considerations more than
usual. That includes the Dolby Digital
2.0 Mono, which in the cases where the artist(s) are mouthing the hit record,
the sound is substandard. The Millennium
Edition CDs of the given Motown artists featured in the majority, while the
Warwick track was issued a few years ago in a 24K Gold CD import, not to
mention better vinyl copies of said materials.
There are no extras either, but get this for the performances.
