Ghost Hunters International – Season One, Part One (2008/Image DVD Set)
Picture: C Sound: C+ Extras: D Episodes: D
As if the original show
was not tired and formulaic enough, Ghost Hunters International (2008) is essentially the same
pseudo-science silliness as reality TV goes into the supposed supernatural
where people play themselves, but very badly, as usual. The only think different between this show
and its U.S.
counterpart are accents and often older buildings.
That this
is only the first half of Season One,
it is amazing (and not supernatural) how quickly this wears thin, even when you
try to give it a chance. They go to
Frankenstein’s Castle, but it is more Ed Wood and badly edited than anything
Mary Shelley ever wrote. Their scientific
measurements of ghosts never work out or are very convincing, but some people
will buy anything, so think of these series as Sun Schick classics on a
shoestring budget. Remarkably, this has
had at least three seasons…
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft and weak throughout, in part from
the “night vision” shooting and also from bad footage that is too shaky at
times and not very high quality overall.
The Dolby Digital 2.0
Stereo is the default highlight of this mess, but it was one of those times I
did not want to hear everything they were saying. There are no extras.
