Chickenfoot – Get Your Buzz On Live (2009/DC3 Blu-ray)

When real
rockers want to rock, they let nothing stop them. This includes when long established bands
(read Van Halen) have no idea where they are going and what they are
doing. Fortunately, those performers who
love Rock music move forward and one of the best such groups formed out of this
necessity in a good few years is Chickenfoot.
If you have not heard of them, they include 24-hour-party-man Sammy
Hagar (who can still sing), bassist Michael Anthony (both Van Halen alumni of
course), The Red Hot Chili Pepper’s great drummer Chad Smith and guitar god and
solid keyboardist Joe Satriani. Chickenfoot – Get Your Buzz On Live
shows the band in action and it is one of the best Rock concerts of any kind on
Blu-ray to date.
When
successful members of other bands (including adding solo artists not
necessarily with any band) were brought together before, this was always dubbed
a “supergroup”, but most of that was marketing and most such bands were quickly
forgotten and for good reason.
Chickenfoot does not even go there and they are just out there to be a
great band, which they are due to their amazing synergy; the kind that has been
sadly missing from Rock music for a very long time.
Songs
include:
1) Avenida Revolution
2) Sexy Little Thing
3) Soap On A Rope
4) My Kinda Girl
5) Down The Drain
6) Bitten By The Wolf
7) Oh Yeah
8) Learnin’ To Fall
9) Get It Up
10) Turnin’ Left
11) Future in The Past
12) Bad Motor Scooter
13) My Generation
They are
also having fun, something also sadly missing from most music since the late
1980s, but the proof is in the performance and these guys can play. So can this disc!
The 1080i
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is one of the best HD-shot concert
Blu-rays (or any HD shoot of anything) we have seen to date, including some
very expensive Classical, Opera and Ballet titles. There is excellent color, very rare motion
blur and one of the most stable HD footage of any kind we have seen in the
format to date. Finally, we get a live
Blu-ray that seems LIVE! Before, unless
the concert was filmed (like the recent Beyoncé Vegas Blu-ray), blur and softness was an issue. This is a breakthrough release and one any
serious music and HD fan will want to get their hands on, even if they don’t
like Rock music.
The
DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) lossless 5.1 mix even more amazing with rich bass,
great surround soundfield and solid overall recording lacking from most
concerts and hit record recordings we encounter today, outdoing any other
soundtracks offered. Yes, audiophiles
who enjoy vinyl, DVD-Audio, SA-CD or the better mixes on past concert Blu-rays
will be very satisfied and in combination with the great image, this will be a
demo disc for years to come. Extras
include an illustrated booklet inside the Blu case while the disc adds stills,
and a nearly 50 minutes-long documentary.
Hopefully,
this is only the beginning for the band.
You’ll say the same thing once you watch this show.
