Spectacular Spider-Man – Volume Eight (animated/Sony DVD)
Picture: C+ Sound: C+ Extras: D Episodes: C+
Now that
the live action Spider-Man film
franchise is in between actors, the idea of a palpable version of the
webslinger falls back on the books and animated series. The current hand-drawn Spectacular Spider-Man is nicer than the previous CG one, but this
show is made for younger children and these single DVD editions are too.
Volume Eight includes only three episodes when
a second season of the very same show has yet to be planned. Too bad, because you can fit more than three
22-minutes-long shows (yes, the commercials are too much and too long) so these
mini-sets are somewhat superfluous. They
are quality product, but this can only go on so long before it is time to wrap
this version up.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image and Dolby
Digital 5.1 mix are on par with the previous Volume and Season sets,
looking good and sounding almost as good, but it is far from great. It does make me curious to see it on Blu-ray
for comparison, but that is all. There
are no extras.
