The Moment After 2 – The Awakening (2006/Sony DVD)

Talk
about unnecessary sequels. I was no fan
of The Moment After (another writer
covered it on the site, but not before I suffered through it) and it turns out
a very bad sequel was made many years later.
The Moment After 2 – The
Awakening is enough to put anyone to sleep with its hidden political agenda
as the oppressed people in the future U.S. police state (read real
Christians) must battle evil (read anyone who is not like them) and they are
the targets of torture and murder.
As
insulting, demeaning, condescending and sneaky as the previous entry or junk
like Six: The Mark Unleashed, this
cycle of junk is insidious in the way it goes out of its way to make its
“heroes” nice, safe, kind and innocent, while the rest of the world is
evil. A phony dichotomy, adolescent at
best, this is one cycle of bad storytelling that should be put to sleep.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is weak, has
motion blur and is nothing distinctive, even with some staircasing and slight
aliasing errors. The Dolby Digital 5.1
mix is really spreading out the limited low-budget recording, so the
combination can be trying. Extras
include a bad Music Video, bad Making Of Featurette and lame cast/crew audio
commentary. Too bad a Mystery Science Theater 3000 commentary
was not here as well.
