Deadliest Catch – Season Five (2009/Discovery Channel/Image DVD Set)

It is
hard to believe that the series Deadliest
Catch has been on The Discovery Channel for five seasons, but it is that
long already and Season Five is now
on DVD as well. All 16 hour-long shows
are here and they are interesting and watchable, more so than the usual
“reality TV” and some things are unintentionally interesting, like the fishing
industry and the possibility they are fishing their catches to extinction.
However,
this beats the usual phony versions of such programming and it occurred to me
that fans of Jaws might find this
interesting for all the time the workers are on the boat, what they have to
face, do with their time and endure. The
show can me too much if wat6ched non-stop, but if you are in the mood, it is
consistent. Except for the editors
trying too hard sometimes with quick edits, loud music and melodramatic moments
between commercial breaks, the show is not bad.
I wonder if I would feel the same way watching the first four seasons.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is not bad throughout, with good color and some good
shots overall, but a softness persists throughout form what is likely a 1080i
High Definition shoot. The Dolby Digital
2.0 Stereo is also good, despite some audio limits for location recording. The combination is just fine for such a
series. Extras include a bonus 5th
DVD with five bonus episodes dubbed After
The Catch, which should be viewed after seeing the whole season.
