Kattan plays… Chris Kattan in the
could-have-been-funny-but-they-didn’t-even-try would-be comedy Bollywood Hero. When his career reaches a dead end in Hollywood (which seems to
have happened years ago), he takes a job in Mumbai and hopes for the best. He finds success, but this overwrought
production goes nowhere fast and is an amazing mess.
Kattan is
funny when he does not try hard and everyone who is here is on overkill and
overdrive. Shrill and silly in the worst
way, it tries to be yet another “insider comedy” that is never funny and
switching to another country’s film industry yet sticking to the same formula does
not make any difference. Julian Sands,
David Alain Grier, Maya Rudolph and even Keanu Reeves turns up, but I had hoped
Tracey Ullman would do her Bollywood character instead. She is nowhere to be found.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 x 1 image is colorful, but this is shot in High
Definition video, is too soft and has more motion blur than it should. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is odd in that is
seems to be stretching out stereo and even mono sound at times, with some sound
recording problematic throughout.
Deleted Scenes and Outtakes are the only extras.
