Pink – Funhouse Tour: Live In Australia (2009/Sony Music Blu-ray)

Pink has
been a very good Pop/Rock/Soul singer with a better sense of music than most
performers of her generation, especially with hits like Get The Party Started and others that have made her a survivor of
the more-fickle-than-ever music business.
With her new Funhouse Tour: Live
In Australia concert, she does what she can to outdo herself and succeeds
more often than not.
She performs
24 songs in all (two are bonus tracks here) and besides the great stage set,
changes in style and great singer and musician backup, she also performs more
athletic stunts than expected. As well,
she also surprises with covers of classic hits by Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody), Led Zeppelin (Babe I’m Gonna Leave You) and The DiVinyls (I Touch Myself) that may not eclipse the original works, but are
far more effective than expected and fun.
The audience seems to agree.
She gives
it her all and that makes it one of the best concert Blu-rays we have seen of
late performance-wise. Even if you are
not sure about her and are not a big fan, you should definitely catch this
show.
The 1080i
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image has some motion blur and is shot on HD
Video, but also some really good color throughout thanks to the high quality,
pricey costumes and set designs. There
are some fine shots here. The Dolby
TrueHD 5.1 lossless mix is the highlight of the release with a solid soundfield
throughout and though it is not always stunning, it is warm and rich. I just wished it had been even more
dynamic. Extras include the On Tour With Pink featurette, Bloopers
and spoofy How To Shred The Gnar.
