In what
seems like a subgenre of Gay productions in the Philippines, Adolfo Alix Jr.’s Daybreak (2008) is an average,
predictable melodrama about two men (Coco Martin and Paolo Rivera) who fall for
each other in a very nice, big house, but have secrets and other issues of
personal trouble and conceits that will likely foil their fling.
Somewhat
graphic in their nude scenes, the acting is fairly good, but we have seen this
story in so many variants before that it is hard to day if they could even find
anything new to do with it, even if the story is about gay men. Because the formula script is also a safe
path, it is watchable at best, but only those really intrigued by the actors
need bother.
The 1.33
X 1 full frame image is shot on video and has constant aliasing, softness and
detail issues, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 Sound has some harshness,
distortion, location audio issues and the combination can be trying. Extras include a trailer and alternate
ending.
