With the
overrated Goal! Films behind him,
Kuno Becker is back and plays a worker with boxing talents in Director Jimmy
Nickerson’s formulaic sports flick From
Mexico With Love (2009), as Hector (Becker) just wants to make an honest
living as a migrant farm worker and move onto better things when he is pushed
into fighting by the evil (and white) landowners whether he likes it or not.
Of
course, he has fallen for a young lady the bad son of the owner also wants and
when the father slashes his ill mother’s pay, he flips out. Running 98 minutes, it does drag on a bit,
only saved by unintentionally funny moments and the camera liking Becker. However, he could be a bigger star and
deserves better than this. Steven Lang,
Steven Bauer and Bruce McGill also turn up, but they cannot make this more
interesting than the formulaic bore it is.
You have been warned.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is on the soft side and has two
cinematographers, while the Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo mixes are about
dead even with limited fidelity and range.
There are no extras save trailers for other Latino titles.
