Once
again we take a look at the latest season of the BBC hit Spy series MI-5, which may just be the worst hit
Spy show in British TV history. We reviewed
the last three seasons before this as these links will show:

Though it
has its fans, this is more like a police procedural and far from realistic to
me. As I did not cover the last set and
my fellow writer had the same reaction, I know I am not alone and there is no
major fan following for this show in the U.S. at least. This four-DVD set has every episode and after
finishing, I wondered where else can this show go. Also called Spooks in the U.K.,
which is slang for spies there, it is light years away from a classic like Callan for instance, and is shockingly
forgettable. I never believed any of it
for a minute.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 is more obviously than ever shot on digital
High Definition with all of its flaws and limits apparent in this tradedown,
with more motion blur, shaky camera work, bad editing, detail issues and other
problems than the previous set. The
Dolby Digital 5.1 has enough healthy surrounds to be the highlight of this set,
except it is harsher and rougher for all the wrong reasons than its
predecessors. Extras include audio commentary
tracks on every episode, three making-of featurettes and U.K. trailer.
