With the
comatose state of Rock Music, all-star concerts have become more common than
ever and one of the more recent ones is now coming to Blu-ray from, Eagle
Vision. A Concert By The Lake (2009) has a
group of distinguished performers including Eric Clapton, Roger Taylor, Mike
Rutherford, Gary Brooker, Ringo Starr, Katie Melua, Chris Barber, Paul Carrick,
Andy Fairweather Low and the current incarnation of The Drifters.
Songs
include:
1)
Over My Shoulder
2)
Reconsider Baby
3)
Lay Down Sally
4)
How Long
5)
Willie & The Hand Jive
6)
Crawling Up The Hill
7)
My Aphrodisiac Is You
8)
The Closest Thing To Crazy
9)
Lay My Burden Down
10) Say It’s Not True
11) These Are The Days Of Our Lives
12) I Want To Break Free
13) This World Is Rich
14) Act Naturally
15) Photograph
16) With A Little Help From My
Friends
17) A Whiter Shade Of Pale
18) Stormy Monday
19) Under The Boardwalk
20) Stand By Me
21) Cocaine
22) I Can’t Dance
Unlike
many such concerts, including ones with legacy acts still touring, the singers
are up to the challenge of their vocal performances and the band is not doing a
bad job of playing. No laziness or
boredom here, though I was not always happy with the song choices and some of
them don’t even seem to fit. Carrick and
Starr are a plus. Fans of these
performers should not be too disappointed, while others interested should give
it a look.
The 1080i
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is not bad for such a shoot and it is a
little bit of a darker stage location than expected. However, color is not bad, but we do get some
staircasing, softness and other slight flaws throughout. The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix
is the best of the three supplied (versus PCM 2.0 Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1),
but the soundmaster is not always consistent with some compression and other
audio flaws that hold back the soundfield overall. The only extra is an interviews segment.
