Vicky
Jenson has worked on some fine animated features, but her attempt to do a
live-action female-centered comedy in Post
Grad (2009) is on the weak side and everything we have seen before, but is
intended to be a warm, pleasant exercise in a young lady graduating college and
finding a good job. Alexis Bledel (Sin City, Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants, TV’s Gilmore Girls) is not even bad casting, but this is everything we
have seen before.
The film
also espouses that despite her hard-earned education, she needs “a good man”
and that will not only solve everything, but help her in her dealings with her
slightly dysfunctional family. Michael
Keaton and Carol Burnett also show up, but cannot add to the film despite their
distinct and very able comic talents.
The result is a feature that plays like a TV movie. Safe and boring, it is for young ladies only,
if that.
The 1080p
2.35 X 1 AVC @ 22.5 MBPS digital high definition image is a little softer than
I would have liked and is either an HD shoot or someone did injustice to film
stock with the digital internegative. The
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix is the surprise here, not as weak as
expected for a dialogue-based comedy with drama and somewhat decent
soundfield. Extras include a Digital
Copy DVD-ROM for PC and PC portable devices, Deleted & Alternate Scenes,
multiple-part Post Grad Survival Guide and Jack Savoretti Music Video for the
would-be hit song from the soundtrack: One
Day. One day, they’ll do this film
with some originality, but don’t expect that for a long time.
