Hilary
Duff tries to go legit and anyone who watches her suffers in Music Video
director Nancy Bardawil’s awful According
To Greta (2009) where she plays the obnoxious title character who dislikes
everyone, everything and herself to the point that she wants to kill
herself. No joke, but this mess
inadvertently treats it as a joke and that is just the beginning of how bad
this mess is.
Of
course, she does not or this might have been interesting, but that would be too
deep for her fans. Instead, she has a
semblance of a family that helps her out, though there is plenty of dysfunction
here, some of which is treated as acceptable and not even Ellen Burstyn (who is
wasted here) can save it. It runs a
very, very long 92 minutes and when she gets romantically involved, it is the
dumbest twist of all. A dud to be
skipped.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is on the soft side and looks like an HD shoot. Maybe the Blu-ray looks better, but we did
not get one as of this posting. The
shoot is unmemorable. The Dolby Digital 5.1
mix is also weak and dialogue-based, but is nothing special and sometimes might
as well be monophonic. Extras include a
dumb Alternate Ending, Greta: Behind The
Scenes and Deleted & Alternate Scenes.
