The Marine 2 (2009/Fox Blu-ray)

Some productions are so prepackaged that you have to laugh
in that they still exist. The 2006 The Marine was one of those and took
Fox and the then-WWF to make it. I was
not a big fan, but some people found it passable, as you’ll see in this link to
our coverage:

Now, a
corporate name change and new lead three years later, we get The Marine 2 (2009), with wrestler John
Cena and his character replaced by fellow wrestler Ted DiBiase as the new title
character. Anything bad we expected from
the Cena film, we get for all 95 long minutes of this clichéfest. The Die
Hard-like hostage formula is more evident than ever after other obligatory
formula scenes and wow, is this forgettable.
Here come the Islamo-Fascists, but he will stop them, even if he has to
run around without any original ideas.
It is as
silly as it is reactionary and unless you really, really, really liked the
first one, you should definitely skip this one.
The 1080p 1.85 X 1 AVC @ 33 MPBS digital High Definition
image is soft as expected, yet had a few more sharper images than expected, but
not many. The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio)
lossless 5.1 sound is better with some good directional effects at best, but
there are still sonic limits and strained sound effects. Extras include a Deleted Shots Montage,
Deleted & Extended Scenes and a group of thin making-of featurettes.
