Status Quo – Pictures: Live At Montreux 2009 (Eagle Vision Blu-ray)

Picture: B     Sound: B     Extras: B-     Concert: C+

A later 1960s British Invasion band that survived the years but without much commercial success in the U.S., Status Quo was actually launched under a series of different names beginning in 1962 and found themselves trying many things before becoming the band fans now know.  Pictures: Live At Montreux 2009 is the band on their official 40th Anniversary singing the following:

1)     Caroline

2)     The Wanderer

3)     Rain

4)     Don’t Drive My Car

5)     Mean Girl/Softer Ride

6)     Beginning Of the End

7)     Is There A Better way

8)     Proposing Medley

9)     Pictures Of Matchstick Men/Ice In The Sun

10)  The Oriental

11)  Creepin’ Up On You

12)  In My Chair

13)  Living On An Island

14)  In The Army Now

15)  The Killer (Drum Solo)

16)  Roll Over Lay Down

17)  Down Down

18)  Whatever You Want

19)  Rockin’ All Over The World

20)  Junior’s Wedding

21)  Rock ‘n’ Roll Music/Bye Bye Johnny

I remembered a few of their early hits vaguely, but was never a fan.  They were at their peak then and in this concert, give it their all, but it is just not the same.  It is a fans-only affair and one that did not stay with me much at all.  However, the extras do show the original band in action.

The 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is not bad, but has some motion blur issues and detail limits, but color is not bad, while the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless sound is better than the PCM 2.0 Stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, but can sound compressed and have a limited soundfield.  Extras include a booklet inside the DVD case with tech info, illustrations and a longer than usual for Eagle essay, while the Blu-ray adds Quo At Montreux, stills, cameras on two performers for two songs each (Rossi Cam: Down Down & Roll Over + Parfitt Cam: Whatever You Want and Rain) and featurette Pictures: The Story OF 40 Years Of Hits.
