For the
few releases we have covered on football, we have only recently covered any
releases from the NFL itself. Odd as
that is, the organization is well-known for keeping a superior film and video
archive with a constant preservation and restoration drive that rivals major
movie studios. However, this also
amounts to multiple formats including HD and All Day With Adrian Peterson (2009) is a portrait of the highly
successful running back from the Minnesota Vikings.
Though it
has a leaning of promoting the NFL and sport, it does not hide this too much or
overplay it. Knowing they need stars to
keep the hard-hitting sport going, the hour-long program shows us his success,
his drafting to the team and then backtracks to his humble beginnings and makes
sure it complements him about his character.
We are told he is noble and has humility. So far, we are convinced.
Of
course, those obsessed with teams other than the Vikings will care less, but
the NFL knows there are plenty of fans to go for the big stars in ways that
cross franchises and cities. This is not
bad and gets the job (ideologically and otherwise) they intend done.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image can be surprisingly soft and flat in
parts, but looks good overall and includes some older NTSC analog video. The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is simple stereo
at best. Fortunately for Peterson, his
success is now well into TV’s stereo era.
Extras include to yearly overviews of the Vikings over the last two
seasons.
