To
enhance the success of new animated series of DC Comics superhero characters, DC
and Warner do semi-features to further push the characters. This used to not work as well as it does now
and two of the odder releases are now available as one DVD. The
Batman vs. Dracula (2005) is the longer of the two and is not very scary or
convincing as the famed vampire (now in public domain) can infect the likes of
The Joker, making it more science fiction than horror. The
Batman Superman Movie is not even an hour long, but features the later
1990s Batman with Superman of Superman –
The Animated Series.

The Batman Superman Movie just does what it can to bring
The Joker and the Lexcorp Lex Luthor together, but also has the heroes meeting
for the first time before becoming friends.
That does not always work either.
However, both are harmless if underwhelming fun for younger fans and we
have seen worse. At the same time, they can
lack the charm of more intentionally child-friendly shows like Superfriends and the Filmation DC
shows.
The 1.33
X 1 image and Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound is just fine for what they are,
barely having any Pro Logic type surrounds, but The Batman vs. Dracula offers a 5.1 mix that is only marginally
better. Well recorded, don’t expect
great sonics. It is not enough to give
the sound a higher rating though. Extras
include trailers on both, while cast/crew text, Joker’s Challenge game and four
mini clips are added to Superman,
then three mini featurettes are added to Dracula.
