Jim Breuer – Let’s Clear The Air (Comedy Central/Paramount DVD)

On Saturday Night Live, Jim Breuer was one
of the funnier cast members, but for some reason became lost in a series of
dated drug-joke comedies that killed what should have been a great launch that
would have likely given him a career similar to Adam Sandler. Instead, he has a hit satellite radio show
and Let’s Clear The Air is a new
stand-up comedy DVD from Comedy Central that shows he still has the comic
timing and some good jokes.
For about
an hour, he talks about his career, growing up and some self-deprecating humor
that works more often than not, but when all was said and done, it felt like
something was not said. It has been years
since he left SNL and I expected a
bunch of gags that would show he had plenty to say since then, but it instead
is just good. There are more jokes he
has not considered and maybe he’ll come up with them by the next special, but
if you like Breuer and find him funny, this is not bad.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is a bit soft and likely a 1080i HD shoot at best. Video Black and depth also suffer. The Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo mixes
are about the same, sporting limited surrounds and a decent-enough recording of
Breuer. Extras include a photo shoot and
fireside chat with “dad”.
