In
another highly unfunny comedy that could have been if the makers concentrated,
Brian Heckler’s Bart Got A Room
(2008) could have been a good coming of age comedy, but it is loaded with
clichés and unfunny moments that never ring true and even William H. Macy as a
“funny” dad of Danny (Steven Kaplan) never works. Steven Kaplan is cast well as Danny, while
Chad Jamian Williams plays the lucky title character, who has a date and a
place to go after the prom.
Unfortunately,
the actors are doing a good job, but Heckler’s script is too easily pleased in
its writing and that really wears out quickly in the short 79 minutes
here. I wanted this to work, but after
more honest and also funny recent films like Adventureland (the time period is irrelevant), this just becomes a
series of missed opportunities. Cheryl
Hines also stars.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image looks like an all HD shoot and is very
soft throughout, while the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is really pushing it, is also
weak and dialogue can be too soft at times.
Extras include the trailer and pop-up production notebook.
