Picking
up on the second season, Doc Martin –
Series 2 continues the exploits of the title character (Martin Clunes) who
cannot stand the site of blood and whose fall from grace has him practicing
medicine in a small English town is not great but not bad either. The humor is hit or miss and the cast is not
bad, with Clunes holding his own.
All eight
episodes plus a special episode are included across the 3 DVDs in the box and
it is the kind of show that if you get into it, you will likely enjoy it, but I
was not one of them and found the show uneven throughout. The laidback nature of the show is appealing
to the audience that made it a hit and it has its soap opera/comedy side to
hold it together. Mystery elements are
secondary, but they are there.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks like an all HD shoot and is on the
weak side for whatever reason. The image
is clean, but that just does not help it in the long run. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is better with
good recording quality for the most part and is typical of current British TV
production. Extras include stills and
text cast filmographies.
