After
seeing endless animated works aimed at children for Christian and Catholic
teachings, it is interesting to see Muhammad
– The Last Prophet (2001) do the same thing with Islam and be less
condescending than many such programs have been since the 1980s. It is less abrasive, more pleasant and
smoother than the lesser programs and is a moderate telling of the story.
Animation
is not bad, but not very expensive either.
Some of the people (as the case rightly explains) who made this were
involved with animated versions of The
Fox & The Hound, The Swan
Princess and the odd version of The
King & I, but we have seen worse and it is a pleasant sit-through,
especially if you want to see a more honest telling of the rise of Islam in the
world.
The
letterboxed 1.78 X 1 image is on the soft side and uneven throughout, but the
color in the better scenes saves the overall presentation from being
worse. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is
not bad in English or Arabic, but has no surrounds and some sonic limits. Extras include stills, previews for other FMG
product, a Music Video and some bonus video clips.
