Dallas – The Complete Eleventh Season (Warner DVD)

In a case
of too much, too little, too late, the long run, Dallas tried to stay alive and compete with Dynasty by going for broke by spending more money on sets, clothes
and other valuable items than before in what was The Complete Eleventh Season, including finally recording the show
in stereo sound! Unfortunately, it was a
minor boost and the show could not recover.
Pricilla
Presley and Jack Scalia were meant to attract new viewers, though he was not
given cast billing. In addition, they
were also competing against sister show Knots
Landing to some extent and you can read more about that show at this link:

Now in a
twilight zone between trying to be Dynasty and still be the cornpone drama that
looked cheap fans had come to love. Bad
as this is, it likely kept the show going for three more seasons afterwards and
remains one of the longest-running nighttime TV shows of all time. The 30 hour-long shows are included across
the three double-sided DVDs and are really for completists only or those who
need a good laugh. The cliffhanger
admittedly is a hoot.
The 1.33
X 1 image is the worst of all sets to date, with not only a strained look and
detail issues, but a finish on old analog video so bad that you have all kinds
of digital layers of digititis and aliasing issues that makes one wonder why
they did not go back to the film prints and fix this. To say this looks soft is an understatement. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is by default,
the best sound the show has had, but it still shows its age and limits. Wonder if a better sound codec or newer
transfer would improve the sound. There
are no extras.
