I give
anything credit that tires to be fun, even if it does not quite succeed and
Caroline Zelder’s A Plumm Summer
(2007) does its best to be a wacky, even zany tale of a popular TV show puppet
stolen and the fans who try to recover it.
Turns out it is being held for ransom and the host of that show (Henry
Winkler) knows the stakes when he anonymously receives the mascot’s bow tie in
a box!
There are
some good ideas here, it is child safe and it is made in a good spirit of
things, but it is ultimately for children if they even enjoy it and did not try
for more jokes that were meant for adults that could have been hilarious
without being dumb or undermine the safe quality of the work. Peter Scolari (Bosom Buddies) also stars.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks like it was shot in HD and has
softness with limited colors to match.
The look is better than a typical telefilm, but still misses the better
looks of older filmed telefilms. The
Dolby Digital 5.1 is dialogue/joke-based and limited in range as this was not
though out sound field, but the recording is clean and clear enough to enjoy
for the most part. Extras include
deleted scenes, trailer, two behind-the-scenes featurettes, audio commentary
and gag reel.
