The whole production holds up very well for its young age
and considering so much digital (and especially bad digital) production has
occurred since, as well as all the advancements in digital, though it has yet
to catch up with film. Nonetheless, the
1080p 1.85 X 1 digital High Definition image is much clearer, brighter and more
detailed than the previous DVD editions (which my colleague overrated a bit)
feigning black and white in a somewhat Noirish way, but there is motion blur
that was always there and is as noticeable as it was on the DVDs and in 35mm
presentations. (Never saw a DLP
presentation.) Still, it is in its
element on Blu-ray and is the preferred way to see it at home, passing the anamorphically
enhanced 1.85 X 1 image DVD with just enough ease.
The DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) 48/24 5.1 mix is the real
winner here, surpassing the Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 mixes from the previous
DVDs, with the twiddle interference problem both versions and codecs suffered. Still, some voice-overs and dialogue are too
much towards the center speaker or a bit compressed, but that is a minor
problem versus what we had on the DVDs.
Nice to see someone care enough to do a proper upgrade when there is
trouble for a change. Extras are the
same as the extended DVD set.
