Curtis’ Cranford (2007) has been so
well received, that the BBC has decided to make it one of their first telefilms
on Blu-ray. With a fine cast that
includes Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Francesca Annis and Eileen Atkins, it
delivers and you can read all about it via our DVD review at this link:

The 1080i
1.78 X 1 image is a pleasant improvement from the anamorphically enhanced DVD,
but it still has some softness and though the style comes across better than on
the DVD, is not the home run hoped for.
Still, this puts the DVD to shame, which simply looks too weak by
comparison and does not do justice to the production. The DTS HD Master Audio (MA) 5.1 mix is not
as engaging as the best such lossless mixes, but it is so ahead of the Dolby
Digital 2.0 Stereo with no palpable surrounds on the DVD that you realize you
are missing details that should have never been missing on the DVD. Once again, the only extra is a making of
featurette and no Blu-ray exclusives are added.
