Unless
you go out of your way, you will find that DVDs on Golf are few and far
between, though magazines on the subject would have limited pressing releases.
Sometimes a title has a great reach and the first in a while is Phil Mickelson – Secrets Of The Short Game
featuring the expert doing a surprisingly good job of explaining himself and
the game to viewers in a new 2-DVD set from CBS. It is so good, it rivals are previous
favorite, The Fairway Gourmet – Season
One, which you can read more about at this link:

Whereas
they add food to make the game interesting, Mickelson has broken down the game
in detail and talks to (not at) the audience on putting, chipping, the flop
shot, bunker play and goes into specialty shots. The result of his taking the long way (the
segments are in several parts) does the amazing thing of making the game fun
and interesting. You land up with a new
respect for Mickelson and the game. Fans
will love it, novices will be impressed.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image was shot in HD and the downtraded
transfer here is a little softer than it should be, but it is clean and
consistent. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
is on the weak side, a little lower in volume than it should be, though
Mickelson is recorded clearly. Extras include
a behind the scenes featurette and Phil’s
Most Memorable Short Game Moments on the DVDs and a companion booklet to
the main programs inside the DVD case.
