Intelligence – Season Two (2007/Acorn Media)

It seemed
Chris Haddock might be onto a better TV show than his hit Da Vinci’s Inquest with Intelligence,
but it is starting to go into directions that do not help and Season Two is trying to be grittier in
ways that seem phony and don’t work. I
was happier with the debut season, as this link will show:

The cast
remains the same and they are still good in their roles, but in the 12
hour-long shows here have become more repetitive and where there should be more
character development and better scripts, we get formula storytelling. It is as if the makers did not know where to
go or how good a start they actually had and the result is sour off the bat
with A Man Escapes, the first
episode. Unless you see the first season
first, do not watch this one. If you become invested in the characters and
situation after the first season, then this might work. Otherwise, it is still a smart show, but
disappoints.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is even weaker than the last set from
being an HD production, but the new look adds grain to almost unintentionally
humorous extents. What were they
thinking? The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
has no major surrounds, but is a clear new recording and still not bad. Extras include text bio of series creator
Haddock, text character descriptions, text cast filmographies,
behind-the-scenes clips and Haddock discussing the new season on camera.
