By the
end of WWII, one had to wonder if The Three Stooges shorts would continue to be
a moneymaker for Columbia Pictures and still be funny. We have covered most of the sets in this
series and a few other Stooges releases, as this link will show:

Of
course, they did, but Volume Five: 1946
- 1948 shows that it was a relief that they were still the same old
jokesters after what the world had been through, yet some of the humor seemed
quainter than it had before and the world had changed. Fans will be happy to know that these shorts
still look terrific for their age have the same quality playback the previous
Volume sets have had. The 21 shorts
include howlers like Three Loan Wolves, Squareheads
At The Roundtable, Mummy’s Dummies and especially Sing
A Song Of Six Pants. Unlike
their colorized versions, these shorts in their original monochrome
presentations here are impressive and in these clean, upgraded new-looking prints.
There are
also more military themed comedies that are different than the usual Stooges
shorts, but show that they could stretch their talents for propagandic
purposes.
