Soccer is
still not big in the U.S. like it could or should be, but a film called Goal! was a moderate hit of sorts some
liked. As the following will show, I was
not one of them:

Now we
have a sequel in Goal II - Living The
Dream and though it is not any kind of nightmare, it is a very slight
sequel that is barely as watchable as the first film, though to its advantage,
it is not as melodramatic.
Unfortunately, it does not have much more to offer and is nearly
condescending in its portrayal of the supposed good life being a big soccer
player. At best, it is amusing, but even
Rutger Hauer cannot save this, but Kuno Becker is back, so that will keep fans
happy.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is really soft for a new production,
with more motion blur and off color than expected. Depth can be an issue too. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is also unexciting
and with hardly any soccer played, racing cars are the only thing that kicks
any surrounds in. Extras include a
making of featurette, trailer, bloopers, deleted scenes and director/producer
audio commentary.
