Runaway – The Complete Series (2006/Sony DVD)

Before Donnie Wahlberg gave in (temporarily, we hope) on
acting to rejoin New Kind On The Block for what has turned out to be a
successful reunion tour, he was plugging away at an acting career and this
ranged from character actor roles to underrated feature film turns (Diamond Men), plus a short-lived TV
show Runaway from 2006. For those interested, it is now on DVD.
He plays a man on the run with his family trying to avoid
jail and worse for a murder he did not commit.
Needless to say the idea is so many generations after the 1960s original
version of The Fugitive that it is
amazing this was greenlighted. However,
Producer Darren Star was hoping he could bring that kind of show back, but he
and the makers had no idea where to begin to make this work. The cast is convincingly cast. Too bad they are not given more to do. This ran nine hour-long time slotted shows.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is a bit soft,
maybe because this is an older HD shoot, but it could also be the format in
part. The Dolby Digital sound is here in
5.0 on the early shows and 5.1 on the later, with little difference or much in
the way of really using all those tracks.
However, the recording is only so good.
There are no extras.
