We
continue our coverage of the hit BBC program MI-5 as it arrives in it’s sixth volume to DVD covering the entire
sixth season stretched across a series of five discs. While we’ve enjoyed the program and it feels
more complete as it continues on with fast-paced one hour installments, it’s
evident by this sixth season that the show is starting to lose some steam and
the ideas are starting to run out.
This will
not deter fans though as those who have followed this far will remain devoted
and will want to get this set regardless.
We’ve already discussed much of the formula for the show in previous
reviews, you can read about season four here,
and season five here.
Like the
previous sets we have similar picture and sound quality with the show being
presented in a 1.78 X 1 anamorphically enhanced transfer that showcases the
films use of High Definition, but also shows limitations with the DVD format
with limitations and it would be interested to see how this show bodes on
Blu-ray eventually. The Dolby Digital
5.1 mix is predominant and mixed well; it helps give the show necessary energy
and brings to life a drama that would otherwise be missing much.
The
supplements follow the blueprint from the previous sets with commentary for a
few of the episodes along with behind the scenes sections and a video diary
that fans seem to love, along with the cast interviews, which are not very
lengthy, but a nice touch to bring life to the actors and actresses involved in
the show.
Fans
won’t be disappointed with this set if they already have the previous
installments, but those new to the show or those curious might want to see what
Blu-ray has in store in the future.
