So what
do you call a virtually plot-less movie that is strung together by one unfunny
moment after another? Apparently it’s
called Extreme Movie, the latest
installment in the tired trend of parody comedy starring Michael Cera of Superbad fame, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew
Lillard, Frankie Muniz, and Ryan Pinkston.
We’ve certainly covered our share of these bombs here at this site, and
this one perhaps takes the cake, as this straight-to-video release contains
zero redeeming qualities and wastes talent as if it were going out of
style.
Like
those other lame so-called send up movies we get the typical raunchy jokes that
think they are funny and are perhaps only amusing to middle school students,
especially in this unrated version which includes more disgusting gags and
unedited material that will likely get a few more laughs from teens who love
the potty humor a bit too much.
For this
DVD release the film is presented in a very lackluster and average transfer
framed at 1.85 X 1 and showcasing the films poor production, lighting, and
camerawork. The film is an embarrassment
to anyone with some degree of intelligence and the DVD shows just how inferior
the film is with a transfer like this.
Equally poor is the Dolby Digital mix that also spotlights the lame
sound design the film utilizes and does very little justice to a film that has
perhaps one of the most unoriginal soundtracks to date.
The film
is a bomb, the DVD can’t save this ship from wrecking even with better
technical features and the making of featurette along with commentary track are
just as useless as we hear about how the film was made and attempts are made to
justify the production value, which is just a bunch of gibberish as something
this bad couldn’t possibly have any worth, it’s even worse listening to the
writing/directing team talk about ‘intentions’ as if making this film was a
challenge.
Skip this
one, hopefully they don’t even think about a sequel, then again we are talking
about Hollywood these days.
