Chris Rock – Kill The Messenger (HBO DVD)
Picture: C+

One of the reasons that Chris Rock continues to be one of
the top stand-up comics is because he thinks through his act and Kill The
Messenger (2008) has him in pre-“Obama gets elected” as he does the same
exact routine in London, New York and South Africa. The final result edited here just shows the
variance in audience reactions and that mixes up the viewing very nicely to his
advantage.
What is impressive is that he has the same high energy in
all the concerts, only gets more fired up as he goes along and the audience
itself becomes more and more fired up. I
really liked the shows, he actually tells jokes that are funny, remains one of
the boldest of all stand up comedy acts and after watching this, I can say he
is only getting better.
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is petty good
throughout and overt the three shoots, though detail can vary. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo does not have
much in Pro Logic surrounds in any case, but all are nicely recorded
concerts. There are no extras.
