Playing
like a pilot for a TV show no one was prepared to really greenlight,
S.I.S. – Special Investigation Section
(2008) is yet another police procedural with boring action, again offering a
“special” subdivision that really gets the action because they are so
good. Too bad their scripts are not.
This
takes place in Los Angeles (again!) where you would think the majority of U.S.
crimes take place if you watched all the bad TV shows on the subject,
especially since the 1980s. The cast of
unknowns are interchangeable, especially because the writing is weak and makes
the British hit The Professionals
look like Masterpiece Theater. This is just processed product with nothing
memorable about it and was not believable for a second. It is odd, though, yet feels too long at 82
minutes. Maybe they should call
Ghostbusters instead.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image looks much weaker than expected with
softness throughout, poor video black and detail issues that have little to do
with anything like style. Color is also
poor often and for sunny L.A., looks artificially overcast all of the time. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is the default
highlight and it has music that outdoes its dialogue in fidelity all the time,
plus has location audio limits. There
are no extras.
