Open Season 2 (2008/Sony DVD)

Some
sequels make sense and when it comes to computer animation, any hit gets a
sequel, which is what has happened with Open
Season, which we reviewed previously at this link:

To be
honest, I could not remember the previous film or the characters until I started
watching this sequel, simply called Open
Season 2. It is somewhat unnecessary
except for a young child audience as Elliot, Giselle, Boog, Buddy, McSquizzy
and others return for another adventure with all kinds of throwaway one-liners. This may work for children, but unless you
like the original that much, see it first or skip this altogether.
At least
it is child safe enough.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is produced in the High Definition CG realm and like
most productions technologically behind PIXAR and DreamWorks, it is softer than
you might expect. Though we did not see
the Blu-ray or the IMAX presentation, this ought to be sharper. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is surprisingly too
much towards the front speakers and may even be a mixdown that is off kilter a
bit, but it is disappointing just the same.
Extras include 5 DVD games for kids, a Music Video, 5 deleted scenes and
two making of featurettes.
