The Great Polar Bear Adventure (Telefilm/Genius DVD)

As a
change of pace, the makers of The Great
Polar Bear Adventure have taken some great nature video footage, digitally
manipulated some of it and have tried to make a narrative tale with actors like
Howie Mandel (yawn) voicing the characters.
The idea sounds like it could work, but add the bad voicings, bad script
and the fact that this footage is better without the “enhancements” and you are
better off seeing other Genius arctic and polar bear DVDs, as reviewed
elsewhere on this site. Some journeys
are better skipped.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is softer as a result of all the
manipulations, though you still get some good shots. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is oddly
recorded and never manages to sound good, for whatever reason. The only extra is a making of featurette.
