Underworld & Underworld Evolution (Sony DVD)
Picture:
C+ Sound: C+/B- Extras: D Films: D
The Underworld franchise is one of the
dumbest ever made and with a third (and hopefully final) installment on the
way, Sony is reissuing the DVDs of the first two in one set. We have previously covered the original film
on the much-better performing Blu-ray edition, as this link will show:
http://www.fulvuedrive-in.com/review/5949/Underworld+–+Unrated+(Blu-ray)
Everything
you need to know about the film is there, including its many flaws and they
extend to the lame sequel, which we did not cover before and will hopefully
never have to discuss again. Both discs
offer anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 images and the first DVD is so old that
it has the Columbia TriStar Home Video Logo.
The sequel disc looks better with more detail and better Video Black,
but is still too soft to be that much better.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix on the first film is shockingly flat, while
the second is more like it, but all pale versus the Blu-rays.
Extras
include feature-length audio commentary by director Len Wiseman (who just
ruined the 4th Die Hard
film) on both films. The first adds a
documentary Fangs vs. Fiction, outtakes and the uncut version of the film,
while the second has six featurettes and a music video. All look very dated already.
