A few
years ago we covered the Special
Collectors Edition of the film The
Truman Show, which was a slightly more beefed up edition from the one
previously released from Paramount.
While it was an upgraded version that did improve on the picture quality
and brought new extras to light, it was still miles apart from where Blu-ray
technology could take it. You can read
about the film and that DVD edition here:

While the
film remains a solid production, nothing could quite compare viewers for this
new experience on Blu-ray, which is stunning to say the least. Finally we get a version of the film that is
worthwhile with a true High Definition image presented in 1.85 X 1 and in
1080p. On DVD, even in the upgraded
version, the picture was always softer than it should have been and the overall
resolution was limited by the technology of DVD. Fans will quickly forget everything they know
about the existence of this film on DVD once they see the quality of the
picture here and the sound has also been given the solid treatment of a
lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix, which not only sounds fuller in it’s
presentation, but delivers a level of resolution that the standard Dolby
Digital format could not.
The
extras included are recycled over and include a Making of feature, a visual
effects featurette, deleted scenes, and the trailers for the film. Nothing overly amazing here, it would be
great at some point to get Director Peter Weir’s commentary.
