Funny Face – Centennial Collection Edition (Paramount DVD Set)

Only one
year after the terrific single-DVD upgrade of Stanley Donen’s Funny Face (1957) comes an expanded
2-DVD Set for a film that definitely deserves it. Having said so much about how great the film
is covering that disc, you can read more at this link:

The same
excellent new transfer Funny Face had
is repeated here in its anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 presentation, one that
should be a real winner on Blu-ray, but continues to be demo material for
DVD. The improved Dolby Digital 5.1 mix
from the upgraded DVD is also good for its age, though I wondered if Dolby
TrueHD could get more out of this mix.
We’ll find out soon enough.
Stills,
the original theatrical trailer and the ever-recycled Paramount In The 1950s
featurette have been brought over from the upgraded and older DVDs, which are
all they had. That upgrade added two
enduring featurettes in The Fashion Designer & His Muse
about the Hepburn/Givenchy relationship and Parisian Dreams about the
making of the film and an examination of it.
Now we get more great featurettes in Kay Thompson: Think Pink!
covering one of the most underrated and valuable careers in Hollywood history, This
Is VistaVision! about one of the greatest film formats of all time and
the mixed Fashion Photographers Exposed showing the business today. There is even more to say about the film, a
classic that cannot be seen and re-seen enough.
Hope the continued Musical revival (including new films like Hairspray and Dreamgirls) helps.
