Incubus – Alive At Red Rocks 2004 (Sony/Epic Blu-ray/CD Set)
Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C Concert: C+
Having
looked at a CD and a Blu-ray from Incubus, why not look at a set with
both? That is exactly what you get with Alive At Red Rocks 2004, the first of
two live concerts of theirs to make Blu-ray.
They are one of the few acts so far to make more than one release into
the pure high definition arena, but here is the first of the two so far. Tracks include:
1)
Megalomaniac
2)
Nice To Know You
3)
Idiot Box
4)
Just A Phase
5)
Priceless
6)
Beware! Criminal
7)
Wish U Were Here
8)
Here In My Room
9)
Drive
10) Vitamin
11) Pistola
12) Stellar
13) Made For TV Movie
14) Talk Show On Mute
15) Sick, Sad Little World
16) Green
17) Pantomime
18) The Warmth
19) Pardon Me
Shot July
26, 2004, the band was better here than in their later Look Alive
concert and was taped when they issued their A Crow Left Of The
Murder CD, all
now adding up to the portrait of a band not knowing where to go next. I can see why some fans are
disappointed. This is a slightly better
concert, but by a very, very slim margin.
I too was disappointed.
The 1080p
1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image actually looks better than the newer
concert and that is because they do not go overboard with the focus zooming
here that they did with the later concert, which is pretentious and lame. The PCM 48/24 5.1 and PCM 48/24 2.0 Stereo
mixes both play better than the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix and the better mixes do
not sound as good as PCM 5.1 and TrueHD 5.1 on the newer disc. The result is a better concert with lesser
sound, but the band more honest and present.
Yes, they are slipping backwards.
Extras include
the CD (with decent PCM 16/44.1 2.0 Stereo sound), which only has 5
tracks. That is odd and there should
have been more material on the disc, but it is not bad and includes:
1)
Pantomime
2)
Follow
3)
Monuments & Melodies
4)
Are You In? (Live)
5)
Circles (Live)
There is
also a small illustrated booklet inside the Blu-ray case with some details
about the concert and content, while the Blu-ray has backstage footage,
navigation of that backstage, bonus audio and HD stills. For more on the band, try these links:
