Jingle All The Way – Family Fun Edition (Fox Blu-ray)
Picture: B Sound: B+ Extras: D Film: D
The worst
Christmas feature film is back and now its horridness is clearer than ever on
Fox Blu-ray. Yes, it’s Brian Levant’s Jingle All The Way (1996) with Arnold
Schwarzenegger! To recap, it did not
make Jake Lloyd a child star and wasted Robert Conrad, Rita Wilson, Jim
Belushi, Sinbad and especially the late, great Phil Hartman in a film that
could drive Evangelicals to Atheism. At
122 minutes, it’s like the dysfunctional family dinner where a family should
have a violent fight, but keeps holding back.
This Last Action Hero of bad Christmas
comedy has our good father going to get the action figure Turboman at the last
minute, only to find he will have to go to war to get his beloved son a new,
boxed specimen as he did not secure one properly despite the characters huge
success. Meaning, if he were not an
idiot, we would not have this idiot movie.
Does the “jingle” apply to bad singing, change bouncing around in his
pocket or the condition of your nerves after watching this train wreck?
See it at
your own risk.
The 1080p
1.85 X 1 AVC @ 28 MBPS digital High Definition image is on the soft side, not
as sharp and clear as I expected, showing its age and likely is the same master
used for the DVD. The DTS HD Master
Audio (MA) 5.1 mix is the surprise as the mix is livelier than a film this bad
deserves, but it is still not a great mix and still shows its age in some
compression and certain sonic ceiling points.
Extras include three featurettes and (lucky us?) the extended cut of the
film, but the two pointless games from the DVD have apparently been
dropped. Bummer?
