Midnight Eagle is the story of the race to save
a nation from total wipeout when a photographer witnesses the crash of a U.S.
bomber in the Alps located in Japan.
However, he must protect the lethal contents in order to keep them from
going into the wrong hands, this results in an action/adventure story that
teeters the line of a brilliant thriller that is refreshing in a day of
monotonous second-grade action films.
Universal
has issued the film with a 2.40 X 1 anamorphic transfer that looks decent and
we will certainly look forward to the films arrival on Blu-ray. In the meantime, it’s a film worthy of
discovery and this DVD fits the criteria for now. While the transfer shows the limitations that
DVD has, it still has a solid enough print with adequate color balance and
definition to make it watchable. The
Dolby 5.1 mis is a bit weak, but then again it’s limited by being a lossy
format and we hope that it’s release on Blu-ray will enable the film to be
fully realized with a lossless audio track.
Until then, we can live with this.
