David
Jason continues to be part of a wave of British TV thriller productions that
are either interesting or too often safe and flat, even after years of doing comedy
and cartoon voices. Ghostboat (2006) is Event
Horizon lite as a ship considered missing (since WWII in this case) that
suddenly turns up, and when visited, turns out to be possibly haunted. Too bad this version is predictable and
loaded with dated digital video effects.
However,
Jason and company try their best to make it work, but the script/story has
nothing new to offer, and when it gets into Spy territory and attempts
suspense, all I could think of is For
Your Eyes Only and Return Of The
Saint. If this is your kind of
storytelling and you like Jason, you might want to give it a look, but don’t
expect much.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 is a little soft and some motion blur, but it
especially suffers when the CG shows up.
Color is also not always good. The
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo at best and is not bad, but not great either. Few Pro Logic surrounds could be heard. There are no extras.
