Can the
mystery of WWII U.S. MIAs and their bombed airplanes be solved after 60 years
in a far away place like Palau? The
Jennifer Powers/Daniel T. O’Brien documentary Last Flight Home (2007) which uses old letters, family interviews
and many of them to show us the faces and the people behind them who were lost
and the others who were affected.
Lasting
67 minutes, it seems like it might be too short, but it is rich enough and to
the point about what happened and how sadly it affected those left behind, but
the main theme of closer and quiet triumph is what this is all about and though
many have to travel half way around the world to get the personal satisfaction
of peace of mind, it is worth it and though I would have liked this to be even
longer, there is something about Last
Flight Home that seems complete and well-rounded, so it makes sense that it
stops where it does. It may even make
others happy who may not be able to take the same journey.
The 1.33
X 1 image is a little softer than expected, even for what looks like an analog
NTSC video production, but it is not bad in its editing or shot choices and
adds interesting older stills and solid archive film footage where applicable. The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is simple stereo at
best and just fine for such a documentary.
There are no extras, save six trailers for other great Inecom releases
like Westinghouse, EXPO – Magic Of The White City, Horses Of Gettysburg and Blood & Oil, all reviewed elsewhere
on this site.
