Greg
McClatchy’s Soccer Mom is an awful
attempt to do a Mrs. Doubtfire
comedy, starting with the mistake that because that was a big hit, it is some
kind of classic instead of the one-off hit it was. So many make-up heavy variants have bombed,
so why this low-budget dud thought it could do better is a mystery, but here it
is. To its advantage, it has the
character actress Missi Pyle as the mother and someone who tries to make this
work, gut she is fighting a losing battle.
Emily
Osment is her daughter who she is trying to protect and see become better at
the sport, but this is so dysfunctional that it becomes bad very quickly. McClatchy just cannot direct and the acting
is no better. Avoid this one!
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is very soft, likely an HD shoot, has poor form and
looks like a bad TV movie. The Dolby
Digital 5.1 mix is poor in the dialogue layback, which is sometimes overwhelmed
by the lame music. The combination is
trying to say the least. Extras include
the trailer, interviews and a making of featurette.
