I am not a big fan of reality TV and most such shows are lowest-common–denominator-exploitive,
but some are watchable, though the plethora of them has ruined TV with the Emmy
endorsement thereof only making a bad situation worse. Little People, Big World is one of the
better shows and The Roloff Family is quite bold and brave in how much of their
lives they have allowed to be taped.
In
general, the message of such shows is that no one’s privacy matters, but The
Learning Channel has made a show that has the twist that the parents in this
family shorter individuals than average and that comes with prejudice, a
subject the show battles by showing that they are three-dimensional human
beings instead of the media stereotypes that still persist. How long this show can go on is another
story, but this Season Two, Volume One set is a good sample of what you
get, predictable and otherwise. At least
it offers some dignity and intelligence, unlike most of its ilk.
The 1.33 x 1 image is shot in analog NTSC video and in
that it is in very good shape, with just enough color consistency. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is the usual mix
of music added later, location audio and editing typical of the style of such
shows. There are no extras.
