Frightfully Funny – Volume One (Filmation Ghostbusters
& The Groovie Goolies/BCI Eclipse DVD)

This
reviewer has previously taken a good, long look into Filmation’s Ghostbusters series on multiple occasions, but for the
first time in a long time had a chance to observe the wild, yet cheesy antics
of Groovie Goolies.
Groovie Goolies is an animated series that
seriously echoes the past with its funny take on the Universal Monsters of the 1930’s.
The series not only utilized a cast of characters that an audience had
grown to love with the likes of Frankenstein’s Monster and Dracula making up
the cast, but the series also had fun with its use of many creative and catchy
musical numbers that are very reminiscent of another Filmation series, The Archie Show. Where as the series can be a bit over the top
with its bad jokes and slap stick comedy, overall this reviewer would have to
say the series stands up as one of the better series of its era. If you want to experience some monstrously
funny animation, this Frightfully Funny collection
gives a nice taste of two of Filmation’s best series ever created this side of
Transylvania.
In total,
the two discs in this set contain 12 of the full 16 episode run of Groovie Goolies. The episodes included are as follows:
