David
Attenborough continues his wildlife programming and the latest Life in Cold Blood is a great companion
piece to Life in the Undergrowth
from 2006. Here he examines the world of
cold-blooded life including lizards, frogs, snakes, and tortoises. This is a great program for kids and adults
alike, especially those interested in nature and those who have a fascination
for the creatures that inhabit our planet.
Again, a
program like this serves as a great companion to the other terrific things that
BBC produces, most notably the Planet
Earth series, which we have reviewed here:

He
narrated the British version of that program and also has many of his own shows
for the BBC, but more on that below. This
program is broken down into 5-segments across two discs, they are:
- The Cold-Blooded Truth
- Land Invaders – Amphibians
- Dragons of the Dry – Lizards
- Sophisticated Serpents – Snakes
- Armoured Giants
Running
250-minutes, it’s enough programming to be both educational, informative,
entertaining, and most importantly engaging all at the same time. The program is presented in a 1.78 X 1
anamorphic transfer that looks great and shows excellent detail despite being
limited by the confines of standard definition since it’s a DVD. The Dolby Stereo mix works well too, but we’d
look forward to revisiting this title in the future on Blu-ray with superior
picture and sound. Extras include a
10-minute behind the scenes for each episode.
